We’re about to give our family room a makeover with new flooring, paint and possibly feature wallpaper – still thinking on that one.
After our new floor gets fitted on Saturday, my thoughts will turn to the seating arrangements. Currently we have an old brown leather sofa and armchair which have both seen better days.
I’ve been looking at various sofa websites, trying to get a feel for what sort of shape/material and overall look I’d like to go for. I’m finding it quite hard to whittle down all the choice! If you’re also considering a new sofa in the near future you may be having the same predicament?
Well, recently I was introduced to ‘Darlings of Chelsea‘ who have a lovely range of sofas – they’re all so nice it’s pretty impossible to select a favourite. So I’ve chosen a top five of their designs to share with you, in case you haven’t come across this company before and they appeal to you as much as they do to me.
Darwin
I like the Darwin for its stylish simplicity. The look is exceedingly comfy and contemporary with those clean lines, square arms and the dark wood base and feet. Although available in a range of colours and fabrics, the neutrality of this particular version is subtle and would suit virtually any interior space. It’s also handmade in the UK so you know you’re getting a quality piece of furniture that will last well into the future – an important consideration as a new sofa is an investment.
Charnwood
A contrast to the more modern Darwin is the elegant Charnwood, shown here in sumptuous turquoise velvet. This plump sofa combines a classic silhouette, a traditional button back and a taste of luxury with fibre cushions and a foam core, plus additional feather scatter cushions. You can choose from a selection of fabrics, but I absolutely love this teal shade as it makes such a statement in a room and ensures this beautiful sofa is the main focal point! I have always loved velvet too, as its such a tactile fabric and looks so chic.
Edward
I’ll tell you why the Edward sofa ticks all the boxes for me. Classic buttoned back Chesterfields have become a big thing lately, but they are just a tad too traditional for me. The amazing design of the Edward means you have that stunning hand-buttoned feature but combined with a more contemporary shape, those squared off arms bringing it bang up to date. I also love the look of the leather here, the patina isn’t uniform and that appeals to me – every sofa will be unique! This handmade to order sofa exudes quality and craftmanship, with an extra cool edge – its the sofa a rock star would have I reckon. Gorgeous!
Helena
If the velvet Charnwood is a little too full on for you and you like something more understated, check out the Velvet Duck Egg Helena. Cool and classy, its simplicity is its strength. You won’t find any piping, buttons or extra decorative embellishments, making it the perfect sofa if you like a pared back style and slightly Scandinavian aesthetic. The sofa has a hardwood frame and luxurious seats and back cushions so will stand you in good stead for the long haul. I personally love how it looks against that fabulous parquet floor – a winning combination if ever there was one.
Marco
I really fancy having a sofa bed. We don’t have a guest bedroom so I always think it would be very handy. However, most sofa beds I’ve tried aren’t all that comfy. It always seems like they compromise comfort for convenience. That’s why the Marco appeals to me as it exudes the sort of luxury Italian quality you don’t normally get with a sofa bed. I love the clean lines, the chic pale leather used here and the simple, modern interior of the room, it’s all so effortlessly stylish. And how about that storage chaise? What a great feature – still allowing enough space for a small double bed. I love clever design and I definitely think this sofa ticks all the boxes.
So there you have it, my round up of five favourite sofas from Darlings of Chelsea. But of course there are many more to look at on the website and you can request up to 6 free fabric swatch samples to see the quality finishes up close. With an enviable reputation for providing excellent comfort, quality and customer service, you’d be silly not to check them out – and if you live near Birmingham, Fulham, St Albans or Surrey you can also visit their friendly showrooms.

Extremely useful to have a sofa bed! And so comfortable having that extension on a side! The storage under is perfect for a blanket and for some pillows!

A lovely selection. When I chose our sofa only three years ago I went for practicality over looks. Now I really wish I’d chosen velvet in a bright shade. Oh yes. that’s my favourite. x

They really do have some gorgeous sofas! I’d have a hard time choosing myself. The Helena seems to tick a lot of boxes for me – I’d love something simple to contrast my velvet Chesterfield! (now if only I had enough room for 2 sofas in my living room ;)) xx
