Every year, thousands of tourists flock to the beautiful coastline of Cornwall for a well-deserved getaway. With its glorious sandy beaches, tranquil waters, and rural landscapes, there’s no wonder this popular location was ranked one of the UK’s top three best UK holiday destinations.
In this article, we’ll be exploring the appeal of Cornwall, why it’s so popular and whereabouts you should consider planning your next staycation.
Cornwall
Cornwall is located in the most westerly part of the UK, making up the southwestern tip of England. Renowned for its iconic beaches, Cornwall has the longest coastline in Britain, with 30% of its landscape receiving ‘Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty’ status
Cornwall has one of the sunniest climates in the UK and the warm ocean ensures that snow and frost are a rarity, even in the winter months. The country also experiences some of the longest hours of sunlight. And, the south-west coast has the only sub-tropical climate in the country, with palm trees located in and around the area.
Why do we love it so much?
The county offers a sunshine escape for those who live in the UK, without the need to jet off abroad. With miles of rugged coastline, sweeping sandy beaches, and legendary waves that offer the perfect surfing conditions, it’s no wonder this iconic UK destination is so popular among Brits.
Cornwall is also home to dozens of cosy pubs, fine-dining establishments, and of course, fish and chips! There’s nothing more British than enjoying the country’s national dish along the seafront.
Where should I visit in Cornwall?
There are so many stunning places to visit in Cornwall, making it hard to know where to stay. Many tourists love travelling to Penzance, located in the south-east region of Cornwall. It’s most famous for its breathtaking coastline and endless blue sea.
St Ives is also incredibly popular. Best known for its charming town centre, picture-perfect seafront, and museums and galleries, it’s one of the county’s prettiest locations. Choose to stay in a nearby hotel, or consider browsing lodges for sale if you’re planning on buying a holiday home.
Helford River is just south of the seaside town of Falmouth. Here, you’ll find this peaceful body of water carving through west Cornwall, stretching along the sleepy waterfront towns. Helford village itself boasts a romantic feel and has been recognised as one of the most beautiful towns in the UK.
Or, why not visit the secret coves of Porthcurno? This serene slice of paradise is ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Arts lovers can enjoy the open-air stage of the Minack Theatre, located just above the coves. It’s the perfect location for enjoying a show with the ocean as the backdrop.
