Many people have imagined what it would be like to be proposed to by the right person, or to propose to that special someone in their life. While some may do it on the spur of the moment with very little planning, others prefer to work out every single detail, to make the proposal memorable. So, what makes the perfect proposal?
The engagement ring
By the time you propose to your partner, you will know them well enough to be familiar with their style and preferences, or you wouldn’t be considering marriage. This makes finding a show stopping engagement ring easier. If the person you love wears jewellery and fashion rings, you will have some idea of the styles and materials they prefer to wear.
The ring you choose should be a little more extravagant than their usual jewellery as an engagement ring is special and gives you the chance to indulge your partner and make the occasion unforgettable.
With the range of diamond rings at Chisholm Hunter, you’ll know you’re giving an engagement ring they’ll be proud to wear.
Think about the setting
Not everyone loves a public proposal. If your other half is outgoing, proposing to them surrounded by people might be a great way to demonstrate you want everyone to know your feelings. However, if they prefer to show their feelings in private, then a romantic dinner at home or in a quiet corner of a restaurant, or the place you first met (at a quiet time), could be the best setting for your proposal.
Choosing the right moment
If you’re proposing in public, choosing the right moment is important. Make sure you are aware of the people or events around you. For example, you don’t want to get down on one knee as the waiter arrives to take your food order, or if you’re outside, as busy traffic speeds past and you can’t be heard properly. You want to propose without any distractions, so if you think it’s not the right time for your special moment, you might have to postpone to a better opportunity instead.
Do something meaningful to the two of you
Your proposal should be personal to both of you. This can mean proposing in the location where you met, had your first date, or first said ‘I love you’.
Another option is to take a short break to the first location you holidayed at together. Or you could just have a song that means a lot to both of you, playing in the background.
One simple but romantic idea is to put together a photo book of the two of you, starting from the early days in your relationship to more recently. The last page could hint at your proposal. When they reach that page, it’s your prompt to say the words.
Getting your proposal right doesn’t have to involve a fancy setting (unless you want it to), or travelling halfway round the world. Making the occasion meaningful to both of you can work much better and help to secure a yes.
