With Christmas behind us and spring now feeling like it’s just around the corner, for many people it’s the right time to start planning or begin working on some home renovations. If a bathroom update has been on your agenda for a while, perhaps this post will inspire you with a few ideas you could try, to give your bathroom a fresh new look.
Replace old bathroom fittings
Sometimes there is nothing wrong with the layout of the bathroom, it is just dated. If that’s the case, fitting a new white bath, sink and loo can make a huge difference in freshening things up. A new bathroom suite can be picked up quite cheaply, too, if you shop around and look for a good deal.
Create a statement feature
If high end is your thing and you want to give your bathroom a wow factor, why not think about adding some unique features. You could include some bathroom luxuries in your design, such as a stunning slate wall for that chic spa-look, or a waterproof TV for the ultimate in boutique hotel style. These TVs are becomingly increasingly popular and can be used in showers and bathrooms – how amazing!
Choose a new colour scheme
If you are limited to what you can replace, but still fancy a change, then opting for a new paint colour on the walls and replacing old towels in fresh new hues and designs can really modernise an old bathroom. Adding a new window blind and accessories, like faux plants and luxury handwash and handcream can help to reinvigorate a space.
Change your tiles
Tiles can really date a bathroom. There may be nothing wrong with the fittings, but if the tiles are straight out of the seventies or eighties, it’s time to replace them, tile over them with modern designs – or at the very least paint them with specialist tile paint to give the look of your bathroom a lift.
Redesign the space
If your bathroom is past its sell by date and you are going for a total overhaul, you can have fun redesigning the space from scratch. Although it can be challenging to do a complete room, it at least allows you to get exactly what you want. That could be a wall hung basin in a different location from the existing pedestal one, or a large walk in shower instead of the old bath. Just remember that changing the plumbing around will have extra cost implications, but you may find you can work in extras like built-in storage or a double sink with your redesign.
Introduce modern elements
Don’t underestimate the power of a key change or two. A new, modern illuminated LED mirror placed above the sink can transform your bathroom into a smarter space – and some units don’t even need to be wired up as they are battery operated. A new light fitting in the ceiling or installing halogen spotlights is another way to bring the bathroom up to date. Get rid of dated features like shower curtains and replace with a smart glass screen.
It’s surprising how a room can go from drab to fab with just a few interior design tricks and you don’t need to spend a fortune.
