When it comes to planning a wedding, one of the very first things you’re going to think about is the budget. Specifically, how to create your dream wedding all on a budget. At the same time, it’s totally normal to cut costs and make some swaps, such as not getting a designer wedding dress, skipping out on a classic car, or even hiring a wedding photographer/ videographer who has cheaper rates and so on. All of these are totally natural; after all, weddings can be excruciatingly expensive.
While swaps, sacrifices, and even some DIY here and there are totally fine and even a good idea, there are some things that might not be just a great idea either, such as doing your own wedding flowers. Sure, there’s been an ever-increasing trend online to DIY wedding things, including wedding flowers, but is this a good idea for you to try out for your wedding in order to save some money? Chances are, it’s probably going to be a really bad idea on your part. So, here are some reasons why it might be best not to DIY your wedding flowers for your special day.
It’s an Intricate Art
Simply put, arranging flowers is way harder than it actually looks. Unless you’re doing an extremely rustic or cottagecore-themed wedding where you can easily scrap some summer flowers together and throw them into a jar, there’s actually a lot of work that goes into making arrangements. Floral design is an art that professional florists spend years perfecting- especially when it comes to the polished look that wedding florals have. They understand the intricacies of flower selection, arrangement, and preservation. When you DIY your wedding flowers, you’re essentially competing with experts who have honed their skills through experience.
The biggest reason why people want to DIY their wedding flowers is the fact that they want to save money, and they think it’s going to be easy. Honestly, you’re far better off hiring wedding florists near you because you can negotiate the price, discuss the designs you want, and they’re going to work to help you out. This is an art, and if you want your wedding to appear like the masterpiece it should be, then you need to embrace that florists are artists who have mastered this craft.
It’s So Time-Consuming
It takes a while to bake a cake; it takes a while to do makeup; it takes a while to even do floral arrangements, too. It might not look time-consuming if you’re looking at tutorials, but it is. In general, you know that wedding planning can be incredibly time-consuming, and DIY-ing your flowers adds another layer of complexity. The time you spend sourcing, arranging, and preserving the flowers could be better used for other critical wedding tasks, such as finalising details, spending time with loved ones, or just taking a moment to relax.
There’s the Aspect of Setting Up
Arranging the flowers is only the half of it; you need to make sure they don’t get bruised or destroyed during transport, they’re still alive and fresh the day of the wedding, and there are aspects like some designs needing to be made the day of (such as a floral wedding arch).
On your wedding day, you want everything to run smoothly. You need to keep in mind that professional florists are skilled in delivering, setting up, and arranging the flowers at your venue. They’re going to have the time, the right people, and the right vehicle to do this. You won’t have to worry about transporting and arranging delicate blooms on your own (which can feel like an impossible feat).
