Often, many of us find ourselves caught up in day to day routines. We can begin to feel a little bored, doing the same thing day in and day out. This is especially true seeing as the pandemic has caused many of us to spend most of our time working and cooped up indoors for the past year and a half. Now really is the time to start focusing on yourself and doing some things you enjoy. As life begins to return to normal, the opportunity is rising! To get you started in the right direction, here are some ideas you might take a liking to.
Setting Boundaries
Sometimes, we find it difficult to take time to ourselves because we find it hard to say no. Many of us serve others, constantly striving to help where we can and make others’ lives easier on a daily basis. Sure, this is a good personality trait. But kind people are often taken for granted, taken advantage of, or simply find that there are too many people vying for their help, advice and assistance. It’s important that you put your own needs first every once in a while. This means setting boundaries and learning to say no if you need to. This can be difficult at first. But when you get used to managing your time and priorities better, you’ll find that it becomes habit.
Picking Up a Hobby
One of the first things you can do, that’s pretty simple to implement into your lifestyle, is to start a new hobby. Most hobbies can be pursued independently or in a short class, once, twice or a few times a week. By integrating hobbies into your schedule, you dedicate yourself to doing something you genuinely enjoy. You’ll make sure to attend classes, as you may have paid and be committed financially and because you don’t want to let a tutor or class down. You may then practice your new skills back at home. Not only will these secure some you-time in your calendar, but it also allows you to explore new interests and try things you’ve wanted to for a while! Whether you’ve considered pottery, creative writing, team sports, learning a language or anything else, give it a go!
Travelling
If you’re willing to give yourself a little more time, why not explore some travel opportunities? There are a number of ways that you can do this. You could start with an inspiring city break or two. You could, if you’re willing and able to take a break from work or other commitments, go on a longer adventure. Travelling can give you all sorts of benefits, open you up to a host of new experiences and generally give you time to focus on yourself. Whether you want to plan a city break in Paris or volunteer abroad in Ghana, this could be a once in a lifetime experience!
Relaxing
You don’t have to be productive all the time. It’s important to relax too! So, why not try giving yourself some more down time? You can do this in whatever way you please. Whether that’s running a bubble bath in the evening, sitting back and watching a favourite film or TV series, taking a nap when you’re feeling worn out or anything else. Unwinding will prove good for you and can let you really recuperate.
Socialising
Not everyone is massively social. But we all tend to have at least one person who we like to spend time with. So, make time for that person or those people. Sometimes socialising for the sake of socialising can be deeply enjoyable and can help forge stronger bonds with those you care about. There are countless ways to do this. You can relax at home together, you can meet in a cafe or restaurant, you could head to a bar, you could go for a walk or you could engage in a whole host of other activities. Cinema, sports, gardening… the list goes on and on. Simply reach out, make plans and stick to them as best you can.
Of course, there are countless other ways that you can focus on yourself and your wellbeing. The best methods will depend entirely on you as an individual, your needs and your preferences. But hopefully, at least one of the suggestions outlined above will appeal to you!
