Motoring can be expensive, but the fact is that many of us need a car to get to work and appointments, visit family, do the shopping etc.
Fortunately, there are ways to cut motoring costs down if you are savvy. KAP Motors, based down in Brighton, has recently launched their informative campaign ‘6 Ways to Cut Down on Your Car Budget’ in order to share some of the tips and tricks that will help you save money on car costs. I’ve got a few ideas, too, so I thought I’d share them here:
Buy Second Hand
It makes sense that buying a second hand car instead of a brand new will save you money, as long as you opt for a good quality used car. Obviously you don’t want to be throwing good money after bad, so shop around and ask for recommendations when you’re in the market for a new car. It’s valuable to know about both good and bad experiences, to help you make the best choice. Often a slightly older model of used car, like those sold by KAP Motors, will serve you just as well as a new car and come in a lot cheaper, having maybe had only one previous owner and with low mileage on the clock. If you have already have a car to part-exchange, you could get yourself a great deal.
Book a Regular Service
It’s important to get your car serviced regularly. Yes, you have to budget for the service fee and any repairs, but the benefit is that potential problems should be spotted before they have chance to get worse and become more costly to fix in the long run. A well oiled machine is always less likely to break and result in expensive repair bills! Keeping up to date with your service history is also a bonus when it comes to selling your car, as it will reassure potential buyers that it has been well maintained. After all, you want to achieve the best price possible.
Save on Fuel Costs
Did you know that there are apps that tell you where the cheapest petrol is being sold in your area? And it’s no myth that driving efficiently can reduce your fuel costs. Keep within speed limits, don’t accelerate and decelerate aggressively, and limit your aircon usage, which can drain fuel more quickly. Keeping your tyres in good order and properly inflated will help reduce the amount of fuel you use, too. Maybe you could think of car sharing during the working week? If a colleague wanted to travel into work with you, they could contribute to your petrol.
Shop Around for Car Insurance
Car insurance is an unavoidable expense, but there are savings to be made. Use price comparison websites to find the best quotes. It may work out cheaper to pay your insurance in one lump sum, rather than installments which may incur interest charges. Did you know you can even buy your car insurance through a cashback site and get a chunk of money back?
Save Money with a Car Crash Lawyer
You may be wondering if you need a car crash lawyer after being involved in a car accident. The answer to this question depends on the severity of the accident and the extent of the damage. If you have suffered serious injuries or property damage, then you will likely need an attorney to help you recover compensation for your losses. However, even if your accident was not severe, you may still benefit from hiring a lawyer to handle your claim, which you can learn more here about. Here are some reasons why:
- Car accident lawyers have experience dealing with insurance companies. If you try to settle your claim on your own, the insurance company will likely lowball you in an effort to save money. An experienced car accident lawyer will know how to negotiate with the insurance company to get you the full amount of compensation you deserve.
- Car accident lawyers can help you navigate the legal system. If you are not familiar with the law, it can be very confusing and overwhelming to try to handle your own case. A car accident lawyer will know the ins and outs of the legal system and can guide you through it so that you have the best chance of success.
- Car accident lawyers can investigate your accident and gather evidence to support your claim. If you were not at fault for the accident, there might be witnesses or other evidence that can help prove your innocence. An experienced car accident lawyer will know how to find this evidence and use it to your advantage.
Hopefully these tips have given you food for thought when it comes to reducing your motoring costs! Do you know any more? If so, please share in the comments below.
