For many festival goers this summer, this might be the first festival they have attended. Attending your first festival can be exciting, as you don’t know what to expect. Whilst this is exciting, it can leave some feeling lost about what to pack and what they will need for their weekend of music this summer.
Are you preparing to attend your first festival this summer? As your countdown gets closer to an exciting weekend of music, here are a few tips to help you prepare.
Don’t Pack What You Can’t Afford To Lose
Whilst we don’t mean to spark any concerns about attending a festival, you should think carefully about what belongings you choose to take. If there are items that you would love to bring that you could not afford to replace or are sentimental, do not take them to a festival. The British weather might be kind, and you may enjoy the festival on a warm summer’s day. However, it can also be unpredictable, meaning walking through the campsites and to the different stages might mean trekking through the mud. As you fight your way through the mud, there is a chance you could fall, and any items you have could get lost in the mud and damaged.
Losing and damaging valuables are common at festivals, along with thefts. In fact, reports reveal that one in three young Brits has had valuables damaged, lost or stolen when attending a festival. As you start packing your belongings, ensure you leave anything you want to keep at home, where it will be safe.
Think About What You Will Use
Now you know not to take what you can’t afford to lose, think about what you will use when at the festival. Remember, you will have to carry your belongings from your car, or from whichever way you travel to the festival. Whilst you might want to take multiple items, you might not be able to carry them all, especially with all of your camping equipment. When packing, be ruthless in what you choose to pack. Only select the things you know you will use throughout the weekend. This way, you can avoid overpacking and help ensure you have everything you need for the festival.
If you have no time to visit your local stores for necessities, you could order items online. This way, you can save a bit of time from planning out what you are taking, how you will get to the festival and what you won’t be able to get there. One thing that you might want to order online is vape pens if you smoke. You might struggle with purchasing these at the festival, so you should consider taking vape pens. If you need to order online, you could order vape pens and elf bars from sites like Grey Haze and deliver them to your home before you leave.
Remember To Pack Your SPF
The British weather is notorious for being unpredictable, especially at festivals. Some festivals might be fortunate enough to enjoy the festival with no rain all weekend but are graced with warm, sunny weather. This difference in weather can make all the difference to the experience! Whilst the forecast for the weather might change, one thing that you should certainly be packing in your bag is SPF. Without a doubt, sunscreen should be at the top of your packing list. If, when attending the festival, the sun is shining, you will want to ensure that you have SPF on hand to protect your skin from the sun’s rays.
Remember that most stages are outdoors, and only a few are sheltered by a tent. As you will likely be spending most of your day sitting, watching, and standing watching performers outdoors or walking to and from stages, you will be exposed to the sun for long periods. If you burn easily, not wearing SPF and standing in the sun for hours on your first day will impact your experience for the rest of the weekend. You will be uncomfortable and likely not have any products to help with sunburn, so it might feel like a long weekend till you get home.
Before you realise it, the week of the festival will have finally arrived. Packing your bags and hoping that you have remembered everything is part of the experience when attending a festival. The next is playing the festival version of Tetris, and deciding how to fit the camping gear and bags into the car. Whilst these moments can be stressful, it will be worth it when you are watching some of your favourite artists play their most iconic songs.
