You’ve probably spent more time at home in the past year than ever before, so if you are tired of looking at the same coloured walls or furniture, then why not treat yourself to one of these 2021 trends for your home space to freshen things up a bit.
Bold Colours
Over the past year we’ve seen a lot of earthy neutrals, which are comforting and grounding. However this year is all about the bold colours instead of having all the walls painted in one pale shade. Why not paint a feature wall in one of your rooms to inject a bit of colour and personality. This will add a focal point to the room and will allow you to be a bit more creative by opting for a punchier shade.
Bringing Nature Indoors
Something that will never go out of date is when you buy flowers online to add some bright colours and natural fragrance to your home. Mixing up different varieties of flowers allows you to create a vibrant and eclectic bouquet of your choosing, guaranteed to make you feel happier.
You could also opt for some indoor plants that are easy to maintain and will cope in a warm environment with the heating on at the moment, such as the Jade Plant, Aloe Vera, or a Dracaena.
Making the Most of Your Space
With a lot of people having to work from home, the need to have multifunctional furniture that can be folded away or adapted to enable any room to function as a working space has been essential over the past year. Items like pull down beds and desks have increased in popularity when space is an issue and you want to make the most out of every area of the room.
The Return of the 80’s
Certain elements from the 80’s will be making a comeback in the form of bold geometric shapes, mirrors and stone materials, e.g. in cylindrical coffee tables. This will complement the bold coloured wall you decide on as a focal point. It certainly provides a more dynamic, fun look compared to the subdued tones that have been popular up until now.
Eco-Friendly Furniture
Utilising furniture that has been produced with eco-friendly materials is certainly going to be popular this year as we try to incorporate more environmentally friendly ways to shop. Ebay has already noticed a trend shift with sales of eco-friendly furniture increasing by 123% throughout 2020 compared to the previous year. This trend is carrying on into 2021 as people find more sustainable items of furniture, whether it is beds, chairs or tables.
Modern Twist on ‘The Grandma Look’
This trend, also referred to as the ‘Grandmillennial’ or Cottagecore is where you create a cosy, femimine space that might be reminiscent of your grandmother’s place. So think pretty florals, textured fabrics, bold patterns, lots of layers on the furniture and a general warm, cosy feel. You will also need to add a few modern pieces to this as well so that it does not feel too old fashioned and remains relevant.
