As the days grow longer and the warmth of the sun makes an appearance again, it’s time to embrace the joy of summer with our families! While we all tend to have lots of family traditions in the winter, there’s a ton of fantastic activities awaiting us during the sunny months too that give plenty of opportunities too. These give us the chance to make memories with our families, shape our kids childhoods in a really positive way and give them ideas for activities to pass on to their own children some day too. Read on for ideas!
Summer Picnics
One of the simplest yet most enjoyable summer traditions is packing up a picnic basket and enjoying delicious food outside. There’s something magical about spreading out a blanket under the shade of a huge tree, surrounded by nature’s beauty, while sharing laughter and delicious treats with family. You could set up a little get together with just your close family unit, or make it a gathering and invite extended family too. Bring plenty of food, drinks and games and it’s the best way to meet up with those you care about and have fun.
Garden BBQs
Firing up the barbecue grill in the backyard is an essential summer activity. The sizzle of burgers and hot dogs on the grill, the aroma of the charred veggies and the sound of children’s laughter all create that ambiance of summer joy. Again, keep it simple or make it an extended family gathering, but aim to have at least one summer barbeque each year to make some memories. You could even look into having some roof awnings installed to either keep you shaded from the sun or protected from the rain depending on the weather conditions you get on the day!
Day Trips
Day trips to nearby attractions are loads of fun during the summer. It could be things like visits to the beach to build sandcastles and splash in the waves or a hike through scenic trails in the countryside. It could be a walk around towns, villages or cities with interesting history, or trips to zoos and amusement parks- whatever your family enjoys. Evening Bonfire
As the day winds down, gather around a backyard bonfire for an evening of storytelling and stargazing. Toast marshmallows over the flames, share tales of adventure, and gaze up at the starry sky. These simple moments of togetherness are what make summer memorable for families.
Summer offers us the best opportunities to slow down, savour the moment and create lasting memories with our loved ones. When its cold and rainy you’re limited on plans and are confined to indoors, so when the sun comes out again, we should all be jumping at the chance to do fun things! Best of all, these are things your kids will remember forever.
