Recently we took our kids to Crocky Trail, the outdoor family adventure destination in Waverton, Chester.
I didn’t really know what to expect, other than I’d been warned by friends that it gets muddy, but the kids will love it! Fortunately it was a dry and pretty fine day when we went, so the mud factor was low. Not that it would have bothered them anyway.
We arrived and parked up, spotting some high slides from the car park, which the boys headed straight for. They bypassed the lower slides and went straight to the biggest, so their faces were a picture as they hurtled down the considerably steep slide. I love this next picture – despite appearances, our youngest was actually laughing by the time he reached the bottom!
It certainly got their adrenaline pumping!
The site is very rustic, some of the attractions are powered, whereas others are more self-propelling, but its all well laid out and I noticed there was a staff member on hand taking care of any litter and making sure the toilets were clean, which they were. There was a decent latte to be found for us adults too which was an unexpected bonus!
One of our favourite attractions was the Titanic. The kids run up to the top of the slope and sit down, then the platform raises up and up until its so steep that, as hard as they try, they can’t stop themselves from sliding down – it was really amusing, a real laugh out loud moment to watch them clinging on to each other, helpless to avoid the inevitable downward journey.
Another favourite was a large rotating rubber platform on an incline that was a challenge to run up and stay upright on. They kept going back to that one.
There are some smaller attractions for younger kids, as some of the stuff is a bit rough and tumble. After the attractions, there is a lovely long trail to follow (I believe it’s a mile long), with an assortment of wobbly bridges, rope swings and stepping stones to cross the stream, plus other activities along the way such as a maze and opportunities to climb and explore.
You can get involved in all of them if you choose, or just take the path at the side if you prefer. There was even a little jailhouse to put dads in!
The scenery is really very pretty too.
Crocky Trail may not be a conventional theme park, but there is plenty to keep the children busy with on the various rides, challenges and the trail – if you took a picnic you could happily spend a full day there, especially on a sunny day. Take spare clothes though in case it rains!
After all that scrambling and fresh air, the boys had really rosy cheeks by the time we got back to the car and we giggled about the funniest moments on our journey home. Great day out! It also appealed to all ages, as we range from 6 up to 45, so we would definitely go back another time.
So now it’s your chance to try and win a fun day out at Crocky Trail! The team have kindly gifted a free family ticket for 4 people, which is valid until the end of September, making it the perfect opportunity to take the kids out and keep them entertained one day during the school summer holidays. Don’t delay, enter now and best of luck – whoever wins will have a great time.
Thanks to Crocky Trail for a fun adventure and a great competition prize

I’ve not been there for years, what a fantastic place it is! I went a few times with my son when he was younger, now I think he’d love a day out there with his kids and of course I’d still love it!
