Everybody wants to be successful in every aspect of life, but it can be hard to manage the juggle between family, work and friends. Being more productive at work is one area we could try to tackle. All it requires is a bit of organisation. So here are 4 tips that might help you to increase your productivity:
-
Time is precious
The rule of thumb is to use your precious hours to get things done.
If you commute to work; listen to a good podcast, read the book you wanted to read for so long or get started on that pile of emails sitting in your inbox. Utilise your time productively.
The same principle applies for any of life events; e.g. rather than going to the garage when your car breaks down, just call a mobile car servicing such as Allied Autocare, this will reduce your down time and won’t affect your productivity.
-
“Eat the frog”
The “eat the frog technique” is a management technique focusing on planning and prioritising. The frog is that one big thing that you are dreading to do and you’re most likely to procrastinate on. Eating that frog simply means to just get on with it and do it. Once it’s done, you’re more likely to feel relaxed with a sense of accomplishment that will follow you for the rest of the day/week.
-
Give yourself some slack
Think of your body like a brand-new car. Make sure you “fuel up” on quality food and “check fluids regularly”, when it comes to drinking water.
It’s also important to take regular breaks at work to improve your efficiency and your concentration. Indeed, breaks have been proven to help employees maintain a constant level of performance. You could also do something for you during lunch time such as go to the gym or take a walk. Don’t be afraid to have a break; you deserve it.
-
You’re the boss
Set your own deadlines and respect them. We would advise you to fill out your own calendar and to do-list and stick to them. The same goes for meetings, before booking your next one, ask yourself if it could be accomplished over email or phone.
Try to minimise the interruptions around you… For example, put your headphones on, keep the door closed or even request to work from home if it will help you to get things done in a more efficient way. Don’t be afraid to suggest ideas that you feel will be a benefit.
Developing habits don’t happen overnight, you need to start small and be consistent. Keep up with it and you’ll soon notice the changes you’ve made!
